Russ and I ran the 5K on March 10, 2013 and it was great! I ran the entire time and finished in 43 minutes! I couldn't believe it, considering I didn't even think I would complete it within the hour time limit. But I did and there was even 200+ people that finished after me. How amazing. We had a great time and enjoyed the running expo. We got some free stuff and a wonderful medal for finishing. We had to arrive at 6am so It felt really good to be a part of something healthy while everyone I know was still snoozing. I cannot wait to do more 5Ks and improve my time. I am thankful that I am able to be active and am recovering nicely. After the race, Russ and I went on the USS Midway for free as a race-perk and it was awesome. We got so many cool pictures and it was nice to see that part of history. Afterwards we ate our weight in sushi and when I got home I took a 3 hour nap. SO not a morning person haha.

Only a few more days until our 5K on Sun March 10, 2013. I'm nervous and excited! Yesterday I jogged for 6 miles around Lake Murray. I would say I jogged 80% of the time and walked the other 20%. I was really shocked and proud of myself, especially since my original plan was to jog 3 miles and walk the other 3 back. Once I got to the end of the lake and turned around I just kept on running. Had plenty of energy and was breathing really good. It's actually funny because the first 15 minutes was awful and I was thinking "what did I get myself into signing up for this race." By the end of the 6 miles I was stoked thinking, "I got this!" I'm hoping to finish the race on Sunday. I had great scan results today at the oncologist's office. NO cancer detected! Staying on my same treatment plan as a backup. Things are definitely looking up!

36 Days till 5K

Russ and I both completed our first 5K on the treadmill tonight at the gym. I'm seriously on cloud 9! Completed it in 47 minutes- which is awesome because I'm in the 50-60min wave for the race. This means I'll for sure be able to finish the race and I might actually finish not last! HAH. Very happy- and will hopefully be beating my time within the next few weeks.

I just registered RUss and I for our first 5K run. Excited to begin training with a bit of a head start from these past 2 months of running. Hoping to work hard and finish the race! It's the San Diego Half Marathon's first 5K race thru the streets of downtown. And it's mainly downhill! Great for our first one. Very excited!

Week 8

Just finished a great run! 22 minutes non-stop, my new record. I've been running at my slow pace but I'm super excited to keep up the endurance. Can't wait until I hit that 30 minute mark. After that I'll be working on my speed so that I can complete my 5K within the next couple months. i'm Also trying to get in shape for my June vacation in North Carolina. SUPER excited for that! I've been struggling with a slight pulled muscle in my upper right leg. I took 1.5 weeks off of running to let it heal but I was getting inpatient. This is my 3rd day back running and I always make sure to stretch it out good before and after. It feels fine during the run and right after but once I'm home it acts up again for the rest of the night. It's mostly when I put all my weight on it like getting out of the car or up from the couch. Not really sure what to do about it, but I'm putting the heating pad on it for now. It's frustrating because my mind is ready for a 25 minute run but my body isn't quite yet. Going to keep building my endurance and hopefully I'll be at the 30 minute run mark by the end of jan. I'm excited to spend my christmas and 2 year anniversary in Big Bear. 6 days of relaxation and fun with Russell's family. Also going to bring my running shoes and hopefully get a few good runs in. Can't pass up that beautiful scenery, I just hope it's not too cold. If it is, I'll be focusing on my yoga instead. Maybe it will help stretch out my leg muscle. Well, here's to the holidays... Day 24

Just ran for 20 minutes straight! My new record!! beat my old record by 3 minutes. I'm so excited and proud of myself. I'm seriously on cloud 9. Russell challenged me before our workout and I powered through the run. Didn't concentrate on the time at all, had perfect breathing, and great music. very excited about my new record and even closer to reaching my ultimate 30 minute goal. so stoked right now!!

Day 20

It's already the end of week 5. Completed my new goal of 17 minutes tonight. WOW! I felt great, had good breathing, and finished strong with increasing my speed for the last minute. Just love the feeling of accomplishment after the run. No significant weight loss yet but I have to remind myself that it's about feeling better NOT the number on the scale. Russ also had a great run tonight- he did 20 minutes and almost 3 miles. He will have this 5K in the bag wayyyy before me but it's very motivating for me to catch up to him. I'm glad we are doing this together- it's very encouraging. After the run I did some weight lifting and overall I'm very proud and very happy with my progress. 

Day 16

Tonight I Completed a 16 minute run for Day 16.. WOW! I felt great. I concentrated on my breathing and I powered through the entire run. For the last 40 seconds I upped the speed and finished strong. I just love that sense of accomplishment at the end of the run. Afterwards I did weight lifting and I feel really good about tonight's workout. Just thinking back to the first week & how running for 2 minutes left me feeling exhausted, makes me appreciate being able to run for over 15 minutes now. Amazing! 

Day 14

today was Day 1 of Week 4! We took 3 days off to be lazy and got back at it tonight. I ran for 15 minutes on 4.4 speed. So Happy! I was going to stop at 10 minutes but I was able to talk myself into the final 5 minutes. It was difficult because I didn't have my music with me but I got through it. I Was watching family guy so that was my motivation (hah). Afterwards we did some weight training and I focused on my arms and abs. Now I'm enjoying a protein shake and it's delicious. HOping to go hard this week because I don't have chemo. I have a MRI and CT scan scheduled for 11/19 and will get the results the following day. A bone scan will also be happening but haven't scheduled it yet. Hoping for great results so I can get off chemo and get back to normal!
